I am a writer, author, singer/songwriter and former newspaper reporter.

My book, Old Man River & Me, written with Mark Knudsen, was named one of the 10 best literary travel books of the year by Booklist magazine. It is available as a Kindle book through Amazon or as an iBook from Apple. A limited number of actual books autographed by both authors are available. Or we can just sign on our names on your e-book screen.

My song, "Santa Came Too Soon," is available for download or streaming from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other services. It premiered on The Dr. Demento Show on Nov. 3, 2018.

I was a reporter and self-syndicated columnist for several newspapers in Iowa. (You can read about Shawn's column writing days here and see a selection of the columns here.)

In 2013, I launched the Box-Toppers.com website, which measures Major League Baseball top players based on daily box score statistics. It's based on a system I developed and began in 1995 to track and rank players daily through the baseball season. While the website sharing the statistics has only been around since 2013, Box-Toppers has analyzed every MLB box score from each game played for the last quarter century.
